A survey by JPMorgan found that one in five institutional investors in companies that do not currently trade cryptocurrency think their companies will do so in the future.
A survey of more than 3,400 investors, representing 1,500 institutions, found that 11% of respondents work in companies that trade or invest in cryptocurrency, while 89% do not.
However, it is promising that twice as much money will be invested in crypto-Ashans in the near future than in those who have already taken the plunge, suggesting that institutional money may continue to flow into the markets.
Of respondents from companies that do not trade or invest in cryptocurrencies, 22% said they thought their companies would invest in digital currencies in the future.
Although some analysts say that sustained institutional buying will now support the price of Bitcoin at $50,000 – a significant number of institutional investors still do not believe in the cryptocurrency.
Asked for their opinion on cryptocurrency, 14% said it’s probably a rat’s ass and something to avoid, while 21% think cryptocurrency is just a passing fad. Only 7% of investors think it will become one of the most important assets.
The survey showed that most institutions are concerned about security. 98% of respondents said they thought fraud was fairly or very common in the world of cryptography.
This currently seems to be a major obstacle for institutional investors, as Damien Vanderwilt, co-president of Galaxy Digital, told Bloomberg last month:
If you think about the conversations we have with corporate and institutional clients and all the circles that are considering investing in this sector, security is paramount and the assets they are buying need to be safe and affordable, he said.
But these concerns don’t bother big players like Tesla and MicroStrategy, both of which will invest billions in cryptocurrency by 2021. MicroStrategy increased its balances in BTC by 27% in February, bringing the amount of bitcoins in the treasury reserve to BTC 90,531.
